Internal Family Systems (IFS)
IFS is an approach developed by Dr. Richard Schwartz that recognizes that we all have a self as well as multiple parts within us. Just as a family is a dynamic system, our internal parts respond to perceived threats in an effort to protect us. The goal of IFS therapy is to nurture “self leadership”, enabling us to respond to stress in an intentional, self-directed way. The IFS process encourages a compassionate relationship between self and parts so that we can experience greater balance.
